LDV D90 Luxury SUV Due In SA In 2024

Following on from the news a month or so ago that the brand new LDV T60 bakkie would be arriving in SA in 2024, comes the news that a second LDV model will also be here in October 2024.

The LDV D90 is billed as a luxury SUV and South Africa will be the first country outside of China to receive this new flagship model.

There will be two models initially, the D90 Elite and the D90 Flagship. LDV calls the design ‘bold’, with features that mirror those on the T60 Max bakkie, including the large grille flanked by LED daytime running lights and large LED automatic headlights.

All D90 models coming to South Africa will be fitted with the LDV Black Package as standard. This includes gloss black door handles, side mirrors, rear roof spoiler, window trims, roof rails, and bold black wheel arch mouldings.

Both Elite and Flagship models will be very well equipped; electronic climate control for front and rear passengers, leather upholstery (on all 7 seats), dual wireless charging pads and USB ports and a 12.3-inch high-resolution infotainment system with Apple and Android connectivity.

The D90 Flagship also gets massaging and heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof in place of the standard sunroof on the D90 Elite, 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels (18-inch gloss black on the D90 Elite) and a 12-speaker JBL sound system (eight-speaker system on the D90 Elite.)

Powering the D90 is a 2-litre twin-turbo diesel engine, producing 160kW and 500Nm, through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. All D90 models are 4×4 with Low-range capability; the Flagship model adds both front and rear differential locks to the central diff lock found on the Elite. Towing capability is 3,100kg.

Safety is taken care of with six airbags, adaptive cruise control, inbuilt dashcam, automatic emergency braking, lane assist and electronic stability control. To this, the D90 Flagship adds a 360° panoramic camera. The D90 range has a full five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Both models are offered with a 5-year/200,000km mechanical warranty and a 5-year/100,000 service plan.

From an early age, Harry was obsessed with anything that moved under its own steam, particularly cars and motorcycles. For reasons of a financial nature, his stable of fine automobiles failed to materialise, at which point he realised that motorcycles were far more affordable and so he started his two wheel career, owning, riding, building and fixing many classic bikes. Then came the day when he converted his love of bikes into a living, writing, filming and talking about them endlessly. The passion for four wheels never left him, however, and he has now converted his writing skills into singing the praises of cars in all their infinite variety. Bikes are still his favourite means of getting around but the car in its modern form is reaching a level of perfection that is hard to resist. And they're warmer in winter....
