Back at Bikeshop Rivonia: Honda Wing Road Tour Delivers More Than Just Motorcycles

I might be a bit biased in saying this, but here goes anyway: very few things unite people quite like motorcycles. Sure, they come in all shapes and sizes. Some riders swear by adventure bikes, while others live for sports bikes, cruisers or naked machines. Some have decades of experience behind the bars, while others are only now looking at buying their very first motorcycle. Yet on Saturday at Bikeshop Rivonia, none of that really mattered.

The Honda Wing Road Tour arrived in Johannesburg with an impressive fleet of Honda’s latest motorcycles, but it quickly became apparent that this event was about far more than simply showcasing new models.

It was about the lifestyle

If you’ve never ridden a motorcycle, it’s difficult to explain why a cold Saturday morning at a bike shop can feel like the highlight of the week. Riders understand it, though. It’s the pulse of an engine beneath you, the freedom of the open road and the friendships that are forged wherever motorcycles gather. This was the atmosphere at Bikeshop Rivonia throughout the week, and especially on Saturday.

Families wandered through the showroom, friends caught up over coffee and boerie rolls, riders compared notes after demo rides, and newcomers spent time asking questions about Honda’s latest technology. Upstairs, Bike Kings welcomed riders looking for fresh gear, while downstairs the showroom buzzed with conversations about upcoming adventures, weekend rides and dream motorcycles. Dreaming about “that bike” is always a problem I have when I walk through the doors at Bikeshop Rivonia, just like that Ducati 848 we tested.

Honda certainly didn’t disappoint

With everything from the CRF 300 Rally and NX 500 through to the Transalp, the Africa Twin range, Hornets and the striking new CB 1000 GT on display, there was genuinely something to tempt every type of rider. Add Honda’s latest E-Clutch technology demonstrations into the mix, and visitors were given a glimpse of where the future of motorcycling is heading, while still keeping the engagement and enjoyment that riders love.

What stood out most, however, wasn’t a single motorcycle. It was just how difficult it has become to choose a favourite. Honda’s 2026 line-up has matured into one of the most complete ranges since its heyday in the early 2000s. Whether you’re looking for a commuter, an adventure machine, a sports tourer, a naked bike or something capable of tackling almost any road, Honda now has a compelling option. And, if you’ll forgive me for saying it, this is arguably the most exciting Honda line-up we’ve seen in years.

The biggest attraction was the people

Riders arrived in groups, with partners, children and lifelong friends. Some came to test ride a motorcycle, while others simply came to browse one of South Africa’s best-stocked dealerships. Many stayed longer than they planned because that’s what motorcycle people do. Guilty as charged here! They chat, they admire each other’s bikes, they swap stories, and they leave already planning the next ride.

Events like the Honda Wing Road Tour remind us why this community continues to grow. Yes, it’s about the motorcycles. But more importantly, it’s about the freedom they represent and the people they bring together. Judging by the turnout at Bikeshop Rivonia, that passion for two wheels is alive and well. In a world that’s becoming more and more vanilla, it’s good to see so many riders still choosing the flavour with a little more spice.
