One Phone. Every Adventure: Exploring the Quad Lock Ecosystem

I was intrigued by the thinking behind Quad Lock’s brand philosophy:

“Adventure. Whether on a bike, boat, car, a trip down the road, or an expedition across the globe, Quad Lock makes the experience better. And we build reliable gear, so you can go anywhere. No matter your device. No matter your pursuit.”

Working in the motorcycle and adventure-lifestyle industry, I find the idea of one phone moving seamlessly between the different parts of everyday life particularly appealing—whether at the office, mounted in your preferred mode of transport, or accompanying you on your weekend pursuit.

So, with a new iPhone 17 to protect, I visited my local Thule Store in Morningside, Sandton—a Quad Lock stockist—to find out more.

What I discovered is that Quad Lock is far more than a secure phone mount. It is a modular ecosystem designed to keep your device accessible wherever your day—or sense of adventure—takes you.

The Foundation

On arrival at the Thule Store in Morningside, the friendly staff were very helpful in explaining the history behind Quad Lock and recommending the right products for my particular application.

Quad Lock was born from founders Chris and Rob’s desire to explore Australia while keeping their phones secure and accessible. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2011, their original iPhone bicycle mount grew into a diverse range of mounting solutions now used by adventurers worldwide.

Fast-forward to 2026, and Quad Lock’s global reach is reflected in an ambassador roster that includes Formula 1 star Oscar Piastri and MotoGP rider Pedro Acosta.

At the heart of the ecosystem is the protective phone case. I chose a sleek black MAG Case for my iPhone 17, adding a green MAG Ring for a splash of colour and an extra touch of adventure-inspired style. More than a cosmetic addition, the replaceable ring incorporates strong neodymium magnets and can be transferred to another Quad Lock MAG Case when upgrading your phone.

The case features an impact-absorbing TPU and polycarbonate construction, a protective lining and wireless-charging compatibility. More importantly, it supports both Quad Lock’s magnetic and twist-lock mounting systems, allowing it to attach securely to an extensive range of activity-specific mounts—but more on those later.

Everyday Use

I opted for the simple but very useful Phone Ring/Stand. I found it particularly convenient as a kickstand when watching videos on the go, while also providing extra grip when walking and talking on my phone.

Made from zinc alloy, it features a 120-degree hinge and removable twist-lock fitment, making it quick and easy to attach or remove. Weighing only 8 g, it also comes with a nifty little carabiner that clips onto my car keys, keeping it safe and close at hand whenever I move my phone between different mounts.

In the Car

Our little Jimny is on the move again and is currently undergoing an exciting new “micro-overlanding” build. The Suction Windscreen/Dash Mount and Wireless Charging Head were therefore particularly appealing to me.

I was so keen to try the system that I installed the Suction Mount in the Jimny before driving home from the Thule Store. To be honest, the standard mount didn’t initially blow me away. Adding the Wireless Charging Head, however, completely transformed the experience by turning the two products into a convenient, one-handed charging station.

Installation is simple. The repositionable lever-lock system secures the 80 mm suction base to the inside of the windscreen, while the adjustable gimbal allows you to position the phone at exactly the angle you want. With a load rating of 1.2 kg, it also feels reassuringly solid once installed.

I ran the charging cable down to the Jimny’s USB charging port and concealed it behind my Takla interior protection liner, resulting in a very neat and tidy installation.

Once fitted with the Wireless Charging Head, the suction mount combines cable-free charging with Quad Lock’s secure mechanical twist-lock system. Position the phone against the head at a 45-degree angle, and the magnets in the MAG Case help hold it steady while you twist it into its final locked position. Wireless charging then begins automatically, eliminating the need to plug a cable directly into the phone.

Compared with leaving my phone lying in a storage compartment with a long cable getting in the way, this is a genuinely practical in-vehicle upgrade. It also allows me to display Spotify on my phone while running Google Maps on the Jimny’s infotainment screen at the same time.

Very, very chuffed with this product.

On the Bicycle

Having experienced the convenience of Quad Lock’s wireless-charging setup in the Jimny, it was time to return to where the Quad Lock story began—on two wheels.

Inside the vehicle, the focus is on keeping the phone accessible and charged. On a bicycle, security becomes the priority. Bumpy roads, potholes and uneven terrain demand complete confidence that your phone will remain firmly attached. This is where Quad Lock’s mechanical twist-lock system and Out Front Mount come into their own.

Fitting the Out Front Mount was straightforward, and it is compatible with 22, 25.4, 31.8 and 35 mm handlebars. Using the supplied Allen key, I mounted it close to the bike’s stem, with the arm extending forward and the phone positioned centrally. The mounting head can be adjusted through 360 degrees, although changing between portrait and landscape orientation requires loosening the central Allen bolt and repositioning the head so that the blue release lever remains accessible.

Attaching the phone is equally simple. Position it at a 45-degree angle, press it onto the mount and twist until it locks securely into place. To remove it, press down on the blue lever and rotate the phone in the opposite direction. The positive mechanical connection feels extremely secure and provides welcome reassurance when riding over uneven terrain.

I found it particularly handy for keeping my music controls within easy reach while out on the trail, although fitness-focused cyclists will undoubtedly get even more value from having their preferred navigation and fitness apps visible throughout a training session.

Where the wireless-charging setup in the Jimny impressed me with its convenience, the Out Front Mount impressed me with its reassuring security. Once locked into place, the phone feels like part of the bicycle rather than something precariously perched on the handlebars.

The Ecosystem Effect

Having now used the system in everyday life, in the Jimny and on the bicycle, what stands out most is not any single accessory, but how naturally they all work together.

The MAG Case remains the constant while each accessory adapts the phone to a different part of my day. The Ring/Stand improves everyday handling, the Suction Mount and Wireless Charging Head create a practical in-car charging station, and the Out Front Mount keeps the phone securely accessible on the bicycle.

Quad Lock hasn’t simply created a collection of phone mounts; it has built a genuinely useful ecosystem around the way people move through life.

One phone. One case. Wherever the day—or the next adventure—takes you.
